Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art

At the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art there is Contemporary American Indian Art on the first floor. One of the pieces is an Everlast punching bag made by Jeffrey Gibson. Added onto the bag is a wool blanket, glass beads, steel studs, artificial sinew, tin jingles and chains. There's something super cool to me about the fact that Jeffrey Gibson took something that is usually just beat up and made it into a beautiful work of art that nobody wants to hit anymore.

  1. I like how descriptive your writing is but I would like you to think about the "ideas" that artists explore when making these kinds of pieces. Also, the opening for this show is this Friday, February 7th 6-8 pm. They always cater a free spread of food and an artist will be there to give a lecture and answer questions. I bet your parents would enjoy it too :)

  2. I like how you described the materials that the author used, because they are visible in the image followed! I also like the way you worded, "Gibson took something that is usually just beat up and made it into a beautiful work of art that nobody wants to hit anymore". It gives me a connection to the reason why Gibson chose to create a piece like this. You did a good job finding that connection and drive behind this work of art!

  3. I never got the chance to see this artwork, so I really enjoyed being able to read about it on here! I agree that this piece is very unusual but incredibly interesting at the same time.
